Hi,

To replace a failing exchanger server, we added a new server into the domain and moved all the mailboxes, public folders etc., all according to a Microsoft work guide and all seemed to go well. We’ve now uninstalled the old exchange server and the new one (after a restart) is holding it’s own apart from a couple of problems. The first being that some users cannot delete items within their ‘Deleted Items’ folder. No error message is displayed, but they simply don’t delete. Has anyone got any ideas? The second issue is that OWA has stopped working, but this might be after the install if Symantec Mail securities.

Regards,

John

Make sure you have pointed the MX record tot he new server. Make sure you have installed/updated your certificate if needed.

Verify IIS security for OWa to be working properly.

Code:
Default Web site
    Enable Anonymous access
    Integrated Windows Authentication
Exadmin
    Integrated Windows Authentication
    Require SSL
        Require 128 bit
Exchange
    Basic Authentication
        Default Domain \
Exchange-oma
    Integrated Windows Authentication
    Basic Authentication
ExchWeb
    Enable Anonymous access
    Require SSL
        Require 128 bit
Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
    Scripts and Executables
    Exchange Application Pool
    Basic Authentication
        Default Domain DomainName
OMA
    Scripts Only
    ExchangeMobileBrowseApplicationPool
    Basic Authentication
        Default Domain DomainName
Public
    Basic Authentication
        Default Domain \
    Require SSL
        Require 128 bit

For the problems deleting items etc, I would verify the database doesn't need to be fixed. ISINTEG will check for propblems and repair them. My FAQ should assist you with that. faq955-5581

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Thanks Mark,

I very much appreciate you advice and have tried the settings but to no avail. The settings you mention however do conflict with other sites I’ve come across.

Thanks for the point about ISINTEG. I have used it once before and will try it soon, but the OWA is my bigger issues.

John

Does OWA work inside the LAN?
Does it work on the Exchange server itself?

Hi,

No it doesn't work on the server and we only use OWA internally. It just stopped working either after the old original server was uninstalled or the Symantec Mail Securities was installed.

Symantec are no help and say it couldn't be their software or they'd have had other calls regarding the same problem.

Try uninstalling OWA, confirm the virtual directory has gone then reinstall it and see if that cures it.

Hi,

Good idea but can you just uninstall OWA? And if so, I assume I use the CD to do that, but I've never seen any reference to OWA when I've installed Exchange.

Regards,

John

The reason behind this is symantec product. All mails of exchange which are scanned by symantec is remembered by outlook.

To solve the deletion problem simply delete the following files from the client computer:

a)Outcmd.dat, extend.dat

the above files will get recreated after you reopen outlook.

for OWA problem, its the permission issue. You have successfully moved the mailboxes but the OWA component has not been transferred with proper permission.

You will notice one red STOP mark in the virtual directory in the IIS console.
