hi, I am a newbie on this scenario and I would like to ask if anyone can explain why I can't ping outside, say ping from my network. This makes my pop mail inaccessible also.

We currently have IP addresses supplied by our DHCP server, and we have our mail server located at another location(outside our building). These both are inside a firewall. But we are able to connect to the Internet thru our proxy server that has an IP supplied by a DHCP server. I am thinking mainly why we can't make a ping outside of our network when we can connect to the Internet.
Thanks.

What operating system are you running on your client computers? What Proxy version are ou running on your server? XP appears to have this problem but I don't know why. Have you set your permissions in your proxy?

We have several Win2k, XP and Win98 clients, all of them can't ping outside. We have a linux-based proxy server. Could this be proxy related, I can't tell you for now what version and permissions do we have in our proxy since our admin is on leave but the linux version we have is Red Hat ver. 7.2.

Do you have DNS servers configured in your TCP/IP settings?

Chris.
