Can't browse web

I have a laptop (my boss's) that will not browse the web. It is Win 2k Pro with service pack 4. It worked fine after the update. It has just recently stopped working. I have scanned it with Spybot and Adaware. And I have tried using Firefox. It will ping our DNS, I can get it to work in safe mode. But I can not get it to open any webpages under normal boot up. I have reinstalled TCP/IP and of course I have checked the addresses and they are correct. It is Friday so I won't be working on it until Monday but any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Spywre cleanup can sometimes leave damaged Winsock entries.
The fix found here works equally well on 2k machines:

I tried the winsok fix and it still won't connect. I am just going to reload windows and put XP on it for him anyway. Thanks for your help. Crycris

What you could have tried is possibly running adaware / spybot / ms anti spyware in safe mode as this sometimes removes things that it doesn't find in normal mode.
