Hi,

I have a local subnet (10.0.1.x) and a remote subnet (10.0.0.x) that we recently connected using a vpn over the internet. Both networks are different domains and each has a win nt machine doing dhcp. I can't browse the pc's at either network from the one side to the other. I think I need to setup wins... am I correct?

Should I setup each side with its own wins server and have them replicate each other?

Any help or guidiance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes, a WINS server on each segment, configured to replicate with each other is the way I would do it.

Serbtastic,

Thanks. Any recommendations on push/pull settings? We have a pretty static group of users at each end, only occasional adds/deletes, and we really don't require of syncing.

Also, from my end I can goto network neighborhood, click on entire network, click on the remote network and see all the users. Problem is that when I click on any of the users to open up that persons pc I get a message saying that "\\rayf is not accessable. Computer or sharename could not be found".

These remote pc's are definately shared, I was able to access them before by using the ip address in the address bar of windows explorer. Any idea on this?

Thanks.

One more thing regarding my previous post. If I go into net neighborhood and click on remote network and the users pc it will give me the error, but if I type in "\\10.0.0.230" (or whatever ip address for that user) it will browse to that remote pc... then, what's odd is that if I go back into NN and click on that remote users pc name again it comes up. Seems like once I access it by ip I can browse to it using windows explorer.

Must be something I'm missing, any idea why this is happening?
