Can't Boot from CD

I am unable to boot into the Windows XP CD. The BIOS is set to CD as first device but it will not access the cd. "I click any key to boot from CD" and it just continues into the normal desktop. I tried also with Drive Image 7, which I successfully used only two weeks ago but again it did not work and I got my desktop. Is this a Windows XP, a BIOS or a Registry problem.
Can anyone help.

The BIOS must be "seeing" the CD ROM drive for it to be a boot option, but what does it say exactly for the device?
