Hello, there!

Currently, mi IDE controllers are set in this schema:
Code:
[b]Primary Master : 20Gb disk (for MS-Windows)
Primary Slave : 8Gb disk running Debian GNU/Linux
Secondary Master: CD-Writer
Secondary Slave : CD-ROM[/b]

Even changing the boot sequence in the BIOS set up utility, I can't boot from CD, neither using the CD-Writer, nor the CD-ROM.

I've tested two bootable CD-ROMs (a Gentoo Linux CD and a MS-Windows 2k) in other machines and everything's OK.

What am I doing wrong?

Which would be the perfect mountage/secuence for the IDE controllers in order to improve perfomance and be able to boot from CDs?

Thanks a lot.

your computer will only boot to the master not the slave. try swaping your cd-writer with the Cd-rom (master/slave settings). And see if you can boot from the atapi cd-rom.

Mmmm.....

It doesn't boot from the CD-Writer, either.

Do you think it's better to put a writer as slave?

Have you tried setting your CD drives to auto detect in the bios?

Thanks, DucatiST2

I'll try that before unplugging any CD-ROM... :-)

Finally....

My machine's able to boot from the Secondary Master CD-Writer, but I had to hold the 'Pause' button before starting.

I guess the CD need to reach some speed in order to be read.

Thanks to all of U.
