I've not seen this issue before, had a brief look at it on Friday, and must revisit the issue this week:

Printer install software fails to function, and any attempts to mod/remove existing printers brings a message about printer folder access denied. The user is said to be in admin group - that will be confirmed on my return to the office.

Of course I did not bring home the note with the exact message wording, but it was not the usual format you'd see if you simply lacked permissions for a particular task.

All existing printers are from a former LAN environment, but this printer attempt is to install a local printer.

any ideas?

Thanks

DJ

Post the errors when you can, for BOTH when a printer installation is attempted, and when a printer removal is attempted. Also, is this a pdc, bdc, or a member server?

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

This is a comune mistake and I am pretty sure you are on a domain. Admin group account from a domain will not let you install or modify a printer on a local workstation. The account must be part of the local admin group as well.
