Hi,

Can anyone help?

I have a Sony Vaio FX-701 laptop that I have on a number of occassions formated with Windows XP Pro and installed service pack 2.

I have always been able to update the drivers for the USB controller from 1.1 to 2.0, untill now. I usually select the USB controller in Device manager and select update driver but it is no longer finding a new driver!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Luke.

Yes because when ever I plug in my USB memory pen or my external DVD burner a message pops-up saying device could perform faster if it were plugged into a usb 2.0 drive.

I have been able to update the drivers to usb 2.0 in the pasrt with no problems.

The error message is stating that the USB ports are USB 1.0 devices.

For the record, USB 2.0 does not really mean anything. The USB Consortium refers to them for the last 2.5 years in different terms - e.g. "High Speed", .etc.

A USB 1.0 device can be called legally a USB 2.0 device under the standard definitions. This does not make it a true USB 2.0 device.

If you are confused, so is everyone else. It is a mess.

This site clears up a lot of confusion:

Thanks for the replies,

The problem still stands that I cannot add a high speed controller by updating the drivers. I have tried burning a DVD on an external usb drive but it much slower than it used to be.

I can't understand why windows update will no longer update the drivers.

Luke.
