Hi Guys,
I cannot un-install realplayer for some reason. I tried to do this through control panel, through start->programs->realplayer->uninstall real player. I even tried to delete anything related to real player in the registry. What happens is, when I un-install, a message pops up saying un-install successful. Now, when I reboot, I get the real player icon with an "i" through it on the taskbar, which is really weird? One time I un-installed, and when I launched aol, real player re-installed itself. I'm also having problems with slow internet connections. I remember I downloaded an internet accelerator once, but I cannot find where the program is located. Ever since I downloaded that program, it takes forever for pages to load up. Please advise.

The best way to un-install anything is to got to add\remove programs in Control Panels. Select the program from the list and click Add\Remove, and it should do it for you. [deejay]

Tried that. Didnt work.

Hi Dell,

As mentioned in my question above, I have already tried that method to no avail. Any other suggestions?

UH,

Didn't see the part where you said that you went to add\remove programs, in your orignal post, you said you went to the folder and click uninstall Real Player, but didn't mention anything about add\remove programs.

BUT LETS NOT GET INTO THAT! I now know that it won't work that way now. SORRY.

You could try to un-install what ever program Real-Player came with (ie-Netscape, or AOL), and see if real player gets un-installed because it is a component, or an extra of one of those programs. If it doesn't, then after you've removed whatever program it came with, try un-installing real player by itself after that. (without Netscape or AOL or whatever installed). Or did you download Real Player? [deejay]

Not a problem dell : )
Yes, I downloaded it.

Something corrupted the uninstall files or they are missing. What you need to do in reinstall RealPlayer, reboot, then remove it from Add/Remove Programs. This should replace any broken links in the registry and replace corrupted/missing files.

In the future, don't attempt to remove links from the registry manually. It is generally a better idea to use a utility like regclean for that. You can find it at

I was going to post the same message about re-installing then re-un-installing, but cdogg beat me to it. It should work!!!

Good Luck [deejay]

Something I discovered about removing real player ... in addition to reinstalling to get all the "uninstall" files, I had to do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and remove the realplayer running in the back ground ... then I was able to do the un-install.
Hope this helps.
