Hi All,

I have searched and searched but can not find anything to fix this...

I have got a couple of machines that unless the user is logged on as a local admin they can not open Outlook 2003.

I have only found one source that says that they have come across this problem, and it is if the user has ever been set as a local admin on any machine, then they will need to be set as local admin now. Luckily for this other person the client that needed to be a local admin was a manager and could be. But I can not set my users as local admin.

Does anyone know how to get rid of this error message? I just want users to be able to open outlook and not be local admin.

Please any help would be great.

Thanks in advance

what is the exact error message received? this shouldnt happen unless the users dont have proper permissions to write files to certain folders under the documents and settings area. in other words, its more likely a filesystem permissions issue more than anything else, based on what youve said

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook" is the exact error message... I think you are right with it being a permission issue on the profile... but which folders do they require full rights too?

c:\documents and settings\<username>\application data\microsoft\outlook

-AND-

c:\documents and settings\<username>\Local Settings\application data\microsoft\outlook

not sure, but there may be others. rights to these areas should be there by default, unless a particularly restrictive local policy was set?

also, removing the MAPI profile under con panel-email and allowing outlook to run the config wizard may also help.
