Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version. This could have been caused by installing other messaging software. Please reinstall Outlook."

Windows 2000 Professional is the Operating System.

I'm trying to rollout Microsoft Outlook 2003 via Active Directory GPO. I've rolled out software previously using GPO and it's worked fine.

I've created my installation bundle, including the msi file and the application does seem to get fully installed on the client PCs upon bootup. The problem is, when I try to launch Outlook, I receive the message above.

The PCs that are receiving the installation have Office 97 on them with no Outlook client installed. Except for Outlook Express as this is bundled with the OS etc.

I have installed Outlook into a different directory than the standard one.

I have also tried to copy and paste the MAPI32.DLL files from a working PC onto the PCs with the problem, but this does not solve the issue.

I've seen something on the net about right clicking on the MAPI32.DLL file and clicking compatibility or something like that, but I don't see that option available in Windows 2000. This is probably an XP solution.

The MAPI32.DLL file is also ticked as "ready for archiving". This is another supposed solution that I saw on the net.

In addition to the problem with launching Outlook, I cannot use Windows Explorer, it crashes.

Fortunately, since I have installed the Outlook software via GPO, I can also uninstall it and this solves the Windows Explorer crashing problem.

Any ideas anyone?

To add to the above, I've also tried running....

C:\WINNT\system32\fixmapi.exe

This did not solve

Thanks for responding. I don't have the compatibility tab in the properties of the Outlook.exe file.

I think this tab is specific to XP. The OS on all of the PCs I'm doing the install on is Windows 2000 Professional.
