Cannot set Message Logging on MSN messenger

I'm running Windows XP for home and Internet Explorer 6.
I need to log conversations. This should be available when running Messenger by selecting Options, Messages and ticking the 'Message logging' box. However, this box is greyed out. Does anyone know why ?
