I've got a user that uses SBC DSL, can send/receive OK with Outlook 2000. He then connects to the domain with a VPN connection and initiales a BluVista (UNIX interface) session. At that time he cannot send/receive with Outlook, he gets 0x800ccc0e - cannot connect to server - error.

I'll test this from my home tonight but are there any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

Sounds like your VPN is a closed tunnel and does not allow outside access to or from the web for security reasons. There may be nothing you can do. You can try to alter the properties of the VPN connection: uncheck "Use default gateway" in the General tab of the Advanced TCP/IP Settings tab of the TCP/IP Properties of the VPN connection

What Outlook is attempting to do at this point is get access to the internet via your firewall while under VPN - most Firewalls will not allow this to happen for security/hijack reasons...

If he wishes to access his own personal mail - he would have to disconnect from VPN FIRST...

If he is attempting to access his workmail - his Outlook client may need to be set up with the domain user-name as its username : eg: domain\username (for pop3)..

Sending email - he would have to set up his outgoing mail server to be your domain smtp server.

i'm hoping i'm putting this accross properly..

Scenario is best..

At home - i have person pop (@rogers.com).. and i have an exchange server here at work that is inaccessable from outside our firewall - so i wish to retrieve work-mail - i need to vpn...

So.. I vpn into my office.. launch Oulook - which is configured to use my MAPI profile on the exchange server.. and i can receive work mail..

However, if i wish, now at this point, to send and receive mail from my @rogers.com account, using say, Outlook Express - i cannot... My firewall disallows connection relay from VPN to *Universe ... so i would have to disconnect from vpn - and do snd/rec'v on my OE again - and I receive my @rogers.com mail..

To bypass this mechanism, I use WinXP PRO here at the office... XP Pro comes with an Administrative Terminal Service ... which allows me to remote control into my box while VPN'd from home... this way - once interactive with my machine - i can view and send corporate mail -= as well as use my OE on my work machine to manipulate my person POP.

Dunno if that helps.. but that's our scenario here... could be the same..
