Hi Guys,
Just installed an S8300/G370 and I am having problem with faxes. Cannot send or recieve faxes s8300/G350, fax machines ring and eventually fail with the far end getting communication error. Check alarms and all seems OK???
Thanks in advance for any ideas on this one.

Rod25,

turn on your t1/e1 synchronization. you can do this from the g700 command prompt using 'set sync interface' and 'set sync source' commands.

dwalin:
Please walk us through the process of getting to the G700 command prompt. I have the same issue and was told by Avaya that they did set the Sync source. I just want to check

Thanks

If you have set an inband interface on the g700, you can telnet to that or you can use the console cable that came with the g700 and hyperterminal in. Login as root/root. Type "session mgp" without quotes. Type "show sync t" - this will show you your sync source. If it's using local then you need to change it using the commands that Dwalin specified.

ronfitz1: Thanks I checked and have only one more question? Is the clock on a ISDN Circuit good enough.

Thanks

1a22ip,

on any isdn circuit, either bri or t1/e1, the clock is adequate enough to provide stratum 4 level. the point, though is not in the clock correctness, it's in the synchronization between your switch and the remote side. you should get your sync from remote side to insure your circuit is free from slips and hence is suited for frame loss sensitive equipment such as modems and fax machines.
though in voip world, faxing is a completely different issue.

here are the commands to issue in the G350 super prompt or g700 configure prompt to set the sync timing

"show sync timing"
make sure active clock is either a ds1 slot or local before doing this.
if your ds1 board MM710 is in slot v4 for instance, your command will be:
"set sync interface primary v4"
then, set the source to be active by doing this command:
"set sync source primary"
if you do a "show sync timing" again, you will see the active clock is v4 and the standby clock is the local.
This needs to be done on all G700 & g350 that have their own T1's in order for faxes to work appropriately among other things.
