Hi,

I have two Exchange 2000 servers on my local LAN. The first is our live production server that process all email normally. The second is a test box of sorts. The second box uses a bogus domain name that cannot be resolved on the internet. Now I can send email from the productions server to the test box and mail flows in just fine. How ever when I try and to reply to the email the mail hangs in the SMTP queue in a retry connection state with the error saying “The Handle is Invalid” I can telnet into both boxes port 25 just fine. I ran an nslookup on both boxes and both mx records come back correct. Basically I can receive mail but cannot send mail.

Very strange that I cannot send or reply to messages. Does anyone know what the The Handle is Invalid is referring to?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Marc. Tried both solutions prior to no avail. Could it be the fact that the second domain is a .local and not a top level FQDN (.com)

What the level is does not matter, but the other one has to be able to resolve it of course. You could try to add it manually to the DNS, if that would be the issue.

But do check your eventlogs for more info.
