Hi,

We have MS SBS 2000 running Exchange 2000 on the same machine. Has been working great until recently. We are still able to send / receive email internally. We can receive external emails, but we cannot SEND emails anywhere external.

I thought it was something with the DNS ... but can't seem to find anything myself. Do you have some specific advice regarding where to look?

Thank you!

Dale

An additional note ... all the emails that we send end up in the queue for all unreachable destinations. (I'm not in front of the server right now, but it's either unreachable or undeliverable).

gotta be DNS, can you describe your DNS internal config (if you have one), what DNS addresses are set on the properties of your mail server's NIC, and if you can resolve internet hosts by name?

Thanks for the replies!

The DNS addresses on the mail servers NIC are itself (192.168.1.100) and my ISP's DNS server 207.69.188.186.

I basically took the default when setting up SBS on the DNS. Not too familiar with it. In the DNS Admin I only have one server FSASERVER ... and under that a forward and reverse lookup zones. Obviously there are some line items automatically generated within these zones that have to do with the people who log on locally to our network.

I know that wasn't too descriptive ... If more detail is needed, please let me know precisely where to look.

Thanks.

You can try and poitn your SMTP to your ISP's realy server, does that work? If the answer is here, mark it, others can benefit from it too.

Thanks for the replies!

I have found something that works now. On my SMTP connector, I was forwarding all mail to a smart host (and putting in my ISP's smart host) and using ETRN to get / send email. I am no longer using a smart host but rather simply forwarding it to my ISP's DNS servers and no longer using ETRN. That configuration seems to be working well.

Thanks again.

Well, it can be simple. If the answer is here, mark it, others can benefit from it too.
