We replaced the Back-up exec9 server with a new server running version 10. Now I need to restore some archived data which was archived using the old server. I have copied the catalog directory from the old server to the new and installed the necessary tapes. I can view the tree structure and select the files that need to be restored. The media loads and goes through its process but no files are actually restored and the file count comes up as 0. The restore job says it completes successfully but no files. The only thing I noticed was that under resource credentials it lists the old server and is using the new default account. Since the old system is no longer available could this be the cause? Where else should I look?

The restore will try to go to the same place it was backed up from. Are you redirecting the restore job to the new server?

I have redirected it to go to a local drive on the new server. This should eliminate any network problems that may exist as well.

What kind of file are your restoring. Are you restoring to a directory that already has these files present?

There is nothing on the drive I am trying to restore to. It is empty and I am tring to restore the file to the root of the drive. I have recatalogged teh tapes hoping this would help but no luck.

I would stop the services and rename the catalog folder. Start the servcies and re-catalog again.
This will rule out the catalog files are corrupt. Since you moved them from a different server and different version of backup exec. They are compatible but I have seen some issue with catalog files.

I renamed the catalog folder in an effort to start over and have received another error.

Error category : Backup Media ErrorsError : e0000900 - The requested media is not listed in the media index and could not be mounted. To add the media's catalog information to the disk-based catalogs, run an inventory operation on the media and resubmit the Catalog operation.
For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-2304

I was looking at it and there are so many causes for this error I do not know where to start. I did re-inventory the tapes as it says but this did nothing. I think I will be calling Veritas monday.

One thing I was wondering is, we purchased the license but not yet received it so this is still the evaluation version. Could this be the problem? Maybe this feature is disabled in the Eval version??

Should be a problem with EVAL. The error above means the media hasnt been iventoried or has been overwritten.
Are you using tapes or backup to disk?

I am using tapes. I have kicked off a full back-up of the new servers with all of the migrated data. Once this completes I will probably contact Veritas on the issue.
