Cannot open Report in Design View

ALL:

This has me stumped. I cannot open any report in design view in any Access database. I can design forms, queries, etc... This a recent issue and I cannot find any usefull information that speaks to a cause. Any ideas?

Sounds like you have your userID (whether it be ADMIN or whatever) "modify design" permissions unchecked for reports. Check out user-level security permissions.

Been there, done that. I did not change a thing.

Just to be on the safe side and not meaning to question your knowledge - but, did you check the permissions for Reports or did you only look at the default display of permissions for Tables? Also, if you are using user-level security, check Group permissions as well.

If that doesn't show anything, try getting a fresh new copy of system.mdw (from install CD if necessary) and see if the problem still exists. It could be a corrupted workgroup file.

Dear Tom,

One possible area, do you have any printers configured and installed on the PC in question.

IF memory serves me correctly, Access will not allow design or preview unles at least one printer has been installed on the PC and is available. So, a downed network printer could also cause this.
