Cannot open attachments

Using Outlook 2000, Windows 98.. client had Norton Internet Security installed and now cannot open any attachments sent to her (Word and Excel). I installed the same thing and haven't had a problem. Any idea where to look for what is wrong? Thanks!

What exactly happens when you try to open these attachments? Can you save, then open?

She would get a blank Word screen and the computer locked up. Same thing if she saved them first and tried to open through Word. I ran an update on her Norton and it hasn't happened since, so am hoping it's solved. I can't believe the computer store put the software on her machine and didn't run an update to make it current - maybe that was it. Thanks for responding...
