I am trying to connect to an IBM Infoprint 1354 via an ethernet cable through my router as opposed to a USB cable. I tried setting it up through my router but couldn't ping the printer. I then installed a separate NIC but again, no contact.
I really don't have any experience here so if there is a kind sole out that that could walk me through it I would be most appreciative.
I tried to install it using the wizard by creating a new port, inserting the IP Address that the printer tells me it has but still cannot ping it.
Thanks in advance

I assume you disabled the firewall before trying to ping the printer -- or at least put the printer's IP as permitted through the firewall....

I also figure that you tried and verified that the printer works via the USB connection....

It's not much but I hope it helps.

Turned off all firewalls and internet security and still no luck.
I have hooked the printer to a laptop sitting next to the printer via USB cable and networked the laptop with my workstation and used it via print / file sharing. This works fine except that without the laptop running I have no access to the printer.

You need to check your setting match i.e subnet mask and default gateway are the same.

Roouter Address 192.168.0.1 Subnet 255.255.255.0

Then you pc should be something like

192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.1, the last one is the default gateway (your router)

Printer e.g
192.168.0.3 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.1

Check the settings and see how you get on.

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.

Thaks Stu. The network printout from teh printer indicates the following:
Network Card: Connected
TCP/IP
Active: Yes
Enable DHCP: No
Enable BOOTP: No
Enable RARP: No
Address Source: Manual
IP Address: 142.107.10.26
Netmask: 255.255.255.128
Gateway: 142.107.10.1

Having no experience here could you give me a little more insight?
Thanks

Stu:
I set the printer to
192.168.0.3 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.1 and now ping gets a response. I will now proceed to install the drivers again and report back.
Thanks

Woo hooooo I have a printer... MANY thanks for the insight. The duplex option even works.
