My server rebooted either from an automatic update or from a power failure. Any time I try to view the properties of a database or even restore a database I get the error:

Error 0: Cannot load the dll xpstar.dll, or one of the dlls it references. Reason: 8(not enough storage is available to process this command).

I have plenty of storage space and 4gb of memory. I am running Server 2003 with SQL 2000 sp3a.

I tried backing up the database from query analyzer on another machine and received the error: MSG 701: There is insufficient system memory to run this query.

From what I can tell, the memory looks fine. I have re-installed sp3a with no luck on the dll file. Any ideas from anyone? I am at a total standstill with backing up my databases.

Any ideas from anyone?

Thanks,

Brian

try running perfmon. Check you memory statistics for server and sql. Make sure the sql instance is seeing the memory you have assigned to it. It sounds like you may have a bad simm.

- Database performance looks fine, it must be the Network!

Sounds like an OS problem. Any problems with the OS, errors in the logs, problems with users connecting and using Windows file shares etc?

Could also be a hardware issue as well. Check the hardware logs (if they exist from your vendor).
