I have ECS K7VZA m/b, 512pc100, seagate 20gig hd with XP pro installed.

I recently bought a Western Digital 80gig hd which I'm planning to use as the main drive.

I have set the 80 gig disc as master & 20gig disc as slave. The bios recognizes both drives as such. I have FDISKed & formatted the new drive and windows does recognise this drive when I boot from the 20gig disc.

My problem is that when installing XP pro to the 80gig drive, the initial installation of files goes fine but when rebooting to continue the setup, the system freezes at the 'VERIFYING POOL DMI DATA' message.

I can still use the 20gig drive to boot XP fine.

I've tried disconnecting the power to the 20gig drive as I thought this might be the problem but to no avail.

Please can anyone help. I am at the end of my tether with this.

Thanks in advance,

I'm a Partition Magic fan. Never let me down, so easy to use.

You unplugged the power, but did you unplug the DATA cable to the 20 gig? Is the 80 gig set as Master, Master Alone, or Master with Slave?

Mikker377,

No I didnt unplug the data cable to the 20 gig. The 80gig is set as Master with Slave.

Thanks

Mikker377,

Correction to previous thread:

I didnt unplug the data cable to the 20gig drive.

The 80 gig was set as master alone.

Thanks

Mikker377,

CORRECTION TO MY PREVIOUS THREAD

I didnt unplug the data cable to the 20 gig but the 80 gig was set to MASTER ONLY.

Thanks

My XP cd isnt bootable. I use a windows 98 boot disk with CD-ROM support to FDISK and Format and set up XP.

I,ve no idea why my XP cd isnt bootable.

However, I again tried installing XP on the 80 gig drive and disconnected the power supply and connection cable from the 20 gig drive.

I partitioned & Formatted according to Microsoft's article 255867. This time I got past the 'VERIFYING POOL DMI DATA' message but was then confronted with a screen informing me
of a GENERAL PROTECTION FAULT.

Can you boot any other CD's from your machine or is it just the XP CD? Is the Bios set to boot from CD ahead of the hard drive.
