I caught and cured the Bymer virus. Ever since, I have been unable to install programs, even in safe mode. When I click "setup" or "install" I get the InstallShield screen, and then my computer hangs. I seem to have enough free disk space, and I have turned off anti-virus for the install. Any suggestions?

Try dumping your *.tmp files and reboot. Try the install program again.

good luck!

I had a similar problem trying to install Visual Studio. ME would just hang for no apparent reason. I know it's a drastic solution, but I would recommend getting Win2k. Admittedly I had more problems with ME than I could poke a stick at, but I upgraded (at phenomenal expense - darn you Microsoft!) and everything was great. System has been pretty much rock solid ever since.

Basiclally, ME is bad. I use my old ME disc as a coaster! =) You should try it, it makes you feel better!
