I have just built a new system with ASUS A8N-SLI Premium with AMD 64 bit processor, I think it is a i.8 Gig processor.

It seems I have done every thing right in hooking it up but I cannot get it started. All the fans starts running for 5 minutes with No Signal Indication. After five minutes the fans and every thing quits.

If any one had similar problem I like to know what is the fix?
I have had ASUS boards for mnay years, never had this problem.

First place I would check is the PSU, swap with a known good one. Make sure all the 12V headers on the MB are connected, like the 4-pin. You should be getting beeps, best way to diagnose is remove all non-essential cards and peripherals, all but one stick of RAM, no HDD, no drives, just RAM & CPU. Swap RAM sticks, then add back until you find the problem.

Make sure the brass MB standoffs are in the correct location and number, no extras! My way is to remove MB & bench-test on a folded towel.

Best of luck.

Every thing seems to start fine and runs fine now but the system cuts off after about 5 to 10 minutes.

Could this be defective Mother Bord?

Very frustrating.

More likely heat-or-power related. Did you swap the PSU??? What did you do to get it going?

You can try re-seating the CPU's Heatsink Fan. Use a BB-size dab of thermal paste and carefully clean off the old w/ ethanol or similar alcohol.

It started coming on when I switched the RAM from another PC.
There seem nothing wrong with PSU although I have purchased a new PSU both seem to work fine.

The fan that came with the CPU looks small. I have decided to send the MOBO back and replace it with another one.

If I get the same problem again, I will have to look for a larger fine. This board comes with something called the "Pipe" to better dissipate the heat.

I am used to Socket A boards all these days with hardly any problems. AMD 64 is the first time for me and I am having all the problems. Are the RAMs for 64 bit are different from earlier ones like DDRs?

Thank you for all the Info.

There are different types of DDR, you ideally want to match all modules and use the exact type of RAM requested in the MB manual.

I too have many Socket A boards and they have been trouble-free, but I use the Sempron, Athlons run hotter so plan on that.

I LOVE Zalman coolers:

I have one on every PC I own. Quiet & cool. "The pipe" is called a heatpipe and will work with a proper case cooling strategy. Make sure there is an intake fan (preferably 120 mm) at the front bottom of the case and an exhaust fan at the top rear. On many systems a good PSU fan will help exhaust.

Best of luck with your new MB and post back to let us know how it went.
