company subcontracted another company to install an IPO. The company installed IPO manager on a pc. They claim it was under 255.255.255.255 I searched every subnet and could not find the IPO. they also told me the ip was 192.168.1.200 but when i browsed to that IP i got an HP printer so that is obviously wrong too. I searched 255.0.0.0, 255.255.0.0, and 255.255.255.0 as well with no luck

any other way i can get into this IPO?

Looked in the patch closet?...:p

Try to put you pc into LAN2/WAN or if you have an older system, plug you pc in the switch directly on the IPO.

i tried that still found nothing... the IPO is in a rack that is not moveable or able to see behind. So i am just guessing that it was the right switch. I am going back to take apart the rack so i can get behind it and see what is going where

just fyi..there is no subnet of 255.255.255.255 that is not a valid number. If manager and the IP Office are on the same network it finds it automatically.. my guess is that its not plugged in or its on a different network that isn't working. Like was said before, plug into the WAN port and see what happens.

255.255.255.255 is a broadcast address used to find IP Offices on the same network as the PC looking for it. Try wireshark, it's a free application that will find the IP address you are connected directly to.

I should have clarified....you can't have an IPO with and address of 255.255.255.255

there are several free IP address finders as well. I was not aware that wireshark did this as well, thanks Telecomboy for that tidbit..

the system does a UDP discovery of the system if you are 192.168.100.10 and the system is 10.10.10.10. it should still find it if the network switch is not VLAN'd or blocking UDP broadcast. My guess is that the system is just not plugged into the network.
Open an offline configuration on the PC that has the manager installed and check what is programmed

Google it you damn kids

Connect Hyper Terminal Baud 38400, save log file and do a cold restart. look for Lan1 and lan2 IP addresses in your log files.

You do not need to restart the ipo.

Connect with DTE and type this:

AT <enter>
at-debug <enter>
system <enter>

This will show the IP address and the type of system and the software version.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

another question from an IPO rookie

if this system was not in fact put on the network, besides plugging the lan into their network is their anything else i should be aware about?

i am a nortel guy and for nortel there is a setting to be checked as well as making sure the dhcp does not conflict with their network.

any tips for IPO?

dglcabling@yahoo.com

if you're going to connect the IPO lan port into their network, then the IPO lan1 ip address should be a static IP address on "their" network. On the Lan1 tab in Manager there is a setting to either turn DHCP mode to "disabled" or "dialin"... assuming the IPO isn't seving up ip addresses for IP phones, dhcp mode should be set to one of these two settings if the IPO is residing on the customer network.

FWIW, many IPO's are left with the wan (lan2) port set to the default 192.168.43.1, so if you know the Administrator user password you can login and find out what they set lan1 to. And change it, if necessary.

Just for grins and haha's, have you checked for the default IP address (192.168.42.1)? Set your computer's nic card to 192.168.42.2 with a gateway of 192.168.42.1. Then have Manager try to find your wayward IP Office.

The other option is fully isolate your IP Office for packet sniffing. Plug your laptop into an IP Office LAN port, unplug all other network cables, and run Wireshark. You should see some traffic from an unknown IP address. That will be your IP Office.

Good luck,
Frank

so just an update , i went back to site and plugged into WAN using 192.168.43.1 as the IP and found the IPO no problem. But then went to login and the subcontracting companies password was wrong so they are going out to troubleshoot.

Thanks again for the help getting in
