Cannot find file 'mydb.mdb' (or one of its com.... 1

Hi all,

I tried to open one of my applications this morning and got the following error message

"Cannot find the file "Mydb.mdb" (or one of its components). Make sure the path and file name are correct and that all required libraries are available"

Now I know the path and file name are correct as I clicked on the application icon. Why would the libraries become unavailable all of a sudden?

Any clues or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

1. Maybe your network people switched drive letters and didn't tell you.
2. Maybe your application is actually deleted (I think you pointed out it is still there, but check anyway)
3. Maybe the shortcut is pointing to the wrong place (I know, very improbable)


I'm pretty sure this message is the "File missing" error message only, so work from that angle.

Hey Philcon...

Try just opening Access (to make sure it's not the program itself) If that open fine, repair the db. Do you see the .ldb file there although the db isn't open? Sometimes if a user aborts or access quits on them, the .ldb file remains open and I have seen it lock the entire db. most of the time, you can just delete the .ldb file and all will be fine, but repairing it will do this for you.

Well thanks for the posts guys, but no success.

foolio, the file is definitely there no problem, and the shortcut is working. I copied the front end on to my laptop and linked to a backend on there and there was no problem with the front end per se.

CMooreJR, there are no ldb files so the system hasnt been exited "illegaly"

Therefore any other help gratefully accepted

There looks like one more problem that I see as possible: check your references. Again, it's unlikely since this is a controlled application and nothing has changed since yesterday, but check it anyway.

Thanks foolio, the posts were very helpful and led to the resolution of the problem.

Someone had illegally interrupted a process on the back end of the database, thereby not resetting its [sys_available]field.

Thefore the front end was opening and closing instantly as it should when the system is unavailable. The error appears to stem from when Access tries to do too many things at once, in this instance trying to quit the application whilst opening up the main menu form.

Strange though that the error message had never occurred before, although the scenario has.
