I am using XP platform and trying to edit a group policy but keep getting the error: failed to open the group policy object. You may not have appropriate rights. It works fine on my other PC using the Group Policy Management snap-in.

thanks

I know this may sound like a silly question but are you logged on to the domain as a user who has rights to edit the policy.

All the files (apart from the gp MMC snap in) are stored on the DCs so there is nothing that is machine specific.

Hi Mike,

Yes I am logged in as myself who has full local and domain admin rights!!

Just as a matter of Interest try it as teh Administrator account...

Local & Domain Admin rights doesnotgrantall the rights toeverything as you might assume it does.
