Cannot delete folder

I have a folder on an NT server that I cannot delete. It says "sharing violation" but no one has the folder or any files in it opened. I have verified this through server manager. I have hacked the registry for the opportunistic file locks (which fixed a previous file lock problem, this is a folder deletion issue). Please reply with any ideas.

Is the folder the root folder of DFS (Distributed File System)? I had a similar problem where the folder I was trying to delete was a DFS root, and even after unsharing it and deactivated DFS the system wouldn't let me delete it. I'm sorry I don't have a solution to you're specific problem. Hope someone does! Ohh and you're positive there's not a single process that's using the folder or any files inside? One possible solution is install the MS win 2000 recovery console and boot to the console and try deleting it from there. If that doesn't work you can always mount the drive on another computer and remove it. If another windows machine doesn't let you do that try a non windows box that has support for the file system your running on the drive. Probably NTFS. Good luck.

And just one other hint... When you get a sharing violation that simply means some other process is accessing the folder or a file inside the folder. It doesn't mean a user on the network is connected to that perticular "share" although if someone on the network had a file open in the folder you'd get the same error.
