...from either the website or from WSUS. BITS was not running and I started that service, but the Automatic Updates service was not started and I get a 1083 error when trying to start this service. Any ideas how I can start getting updates again!
Go to Start–>Run
Type regedit
On the left hand side, navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE; then to:
SOFTWARE
Microsoft
WindowsNT
CurrentVersion
SvcHost
Now, when you’re in the SvcHost folder, you need to right click on netsvcs, and click “new,” then “key.”
Now, you will need to add two new “keys.” These keys will be named:
BITS
WUAUSERV
It should create two “folder” looking icons under the “netsvcs” key. This means the two needed services to prevent this error from occuring have been added.
Now, all that is needed, is a reboot on your end. You should be able to go into services.msc, and right click on the BITS service, and click start, and all should work! Now, you can receive your needed Windows updates!
Thanks sqw. It turned out that my Update Service was not running and unable to start. I had to change my startup services to normal and both BITS and WUAUSERV were up and running again!
