I am trying to copy a file from a CD to my hard drive and XP won't allow it, stating "Cannot copy: Parameter incorrect". Anyone know why it won't allow me to copy these files and what exactly it is telling me by saying the parameter is incorrect?? This is a new, clean CD, I've ever had a problem copying files off of a CD before. Is there a workaround?

...just wondering...is it an image file you are trying to copy? i'm having the same problem with some .tif files...

I'm having a similar problem to the one you describe but with different devices. I'm running W2K copying JPG's from my SanDisk compact media card and reader to my HD. It has peculiar behavior. I can copy the first ten files or so and then I get "Cannot copy XXXX.jpg Parameter is incorrect" and everything stops. I've had this problem copying files from a compact flash disk ever since I switched to W2K 6 months ago. Sometimes, I can replace the card in the camers, switch to Play, review each image, remove the card and replace into the reader, and copy the images. But not this time. I could really use some suggestions. [peace] Knock and the door shall be opened unto you. Seek and ye shall find!

Have a look in your Event Viewer under both System and Applications. See if there are any other error or warning messages. "Parameter Incorrect" appears to be a general something is wrong message, see if you can track down more information and post back.

nothing in the event viewer under system or application.
i do get a different error when i try to open the files in photoshop: "Could not open ... because of a disk error." (the .tif files are on a CD - some copy and open - some don't). my only guess is that something is wrong with the .tif file itself. any thoughts?

I am experiencing the same problem. When I attempt to copy a .jpeg from my digital camera to my external usb hard drive I get 'cannot copy x.jpeg: parameter incorrect'. However, if I copy this to my C Drive, there is no problem. I can also open the files directly from the camera (compact flash card) and view using my standard graphics software.

I have not come across this before and have carried out the above hundreds of times - why has it failed now all of a sudden?! Before anyone asks the obvious, I have not recently installed any new hardware or software. (running xp pro). Help.......!
