Hello Smitee,

Yes I still checking once in a while and still have problem. I checked my registry settings based on your list:
I don't understand those numbers, are they addresses? I couldn't find number starts with {ECF0.....
so, I tried to match the text, only close one is the following:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}
/InProcServer32
Default "mydocs.dll"
ThreadingModel "Apartment"

Anything you want me to check I will do it. Thank you for not giving up on this subject!

Happy Thanksgiving! Anne

Hey,
I've been reading over this thread with a lot of interest. Im having a computer here thats doing the exact same thing as Annes. I dont want to format it as it has a lot of old porograms that I no longer have the disks for, but its looking more and more like I will have to....

Anyway, in my playing around with it I've noticed something interesting. When you right click on a file and go to send to desktop, it says "Send to Desktop.lnk" and the desktop icon is missing. This leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the link to the desktop. I'm not sure how important this is , but I think its better posted than not....

Sean,

So I'm assuming nothing so far has helped?

Have you modified the .lnk filetype using TweakUI or similar? Backup the registry and/or export any keys prior to modifying:

Make sure the .lnk entry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT looks like this;
==================BEGIN CUT==================
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.lnk]
@="lnkfile"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.lnk\ShellNew]
"Command"="RunDLL32 AppWiz.Cpl,NewLinkHere %2"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.lnk\ShellEx]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.lnk\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{500202A0-731E-11d0-B829-00C04FD706EC}"
================END CUT==================

Make sure the lnkfile under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT looks like this:
===============BEGIN CUT==================
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile]
@="Shortcut"
"EditFlags"=dword:00000001
"IsShortcut"=""
"NeverShowExt"=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile\CLSID]
@="{00021401-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile\shellex]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile\shellex\IconHandler]
@="{00021401-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile\shellex\DropHandler]
@="{00021401-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{00021401-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]
@=""
==================END CUT===================
Here's how to fix the Send to Desktop problem:
open Notepad and copy and paste the following between the lines and save the file as desklink.reg. Double-click on the file to merge the contents into the registry.

================BEGIN CUT====================
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.DeskLink]
@="CLSID\\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}"
====================END CUT=================
open Notepad and copy and paste the following between the lines and save the file as drophandler.reg. Double-click on the file to merge the contents into the registry.
================BEGIN CUT====================
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}]
"NeverShowExt"=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\InProcServer32]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM\\SENDMAIL.DLL"
"ThreadingModel"="Apartment"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\explorer.exe,-103"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\shellex]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\shellex\DropHandler]
@="{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}"
===================END CUT====================

Shutdown and restart your computer.

Cheers Reghakr,

That fixed the right click problem - I can now send to the desktop, but I still cant paste. Buggrit!

Thanks

Sean

If you've tried all the steps above, I'm at a lose.

Just wanted to let all of you know that your work here was not totally in vein. I had the same problem as Anature, lost ability to drag/drop or edit--copy/edit--paste. Ran DCOM95 installer from M$ (referenced above in thread) rebooted and that solved my problem completely! Thanks to you all!

God bless.

Freaky Thing... I was playing around with the troubled computer, and deleted all the files in the temp and temp internet files directory under windows, rebooted and boom! I can now paste in windows. I dont know whats going on there...

Ann

Do you or have you used any Homesite or Coldfusion software?

Smitee

smitee,
No, I don't have them. Anne

Could be a drive space issue... Nate Gagne

Hi Guys, hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

It's been a year since I had this wierd problem. I have been
using Briefcase and DOS commands to do Copy/Move. Finally I bought a software (Anywhere) to make life easier. I still tried the Windows Copy/Move function once in awhile. Today I tried it again and VOILA, it works! I tried to remember what I did recently that fixed the problem. Things I can think of are:
Installed a laser printer(Minolta-QMS 1250)
Downloaded PPView

Think some of you would like to know this.
Anne

It seems to me that agreat deal of time would be saved by formatting the hard drive and reinstalling Windows. It isn't a hardware problem so that should do the trick!
