Cannot connect to server over

As I am not too conversant in network and internet protocols, I hope this is enough info. I am trying to replicate (SQL Server 2000) to our warehouse through a VPN over the internet via an ASDL connection (yes, it's very slow). The internet connection goes through a 'Sonicwall' firewall at each end. Setting up the servers at either end is relatively easy enough, but when to comes to synchronizing, I cannot seem to connect to the warehouse from the main office and vice versa. I installed service pack 2 and it enabled me to "see" the office server from the warehouse, I can even open the office server from the warehouse and view data, but I cannot connect through a subscription, setup a subscription/publication, or change any data. I cannot "see" the warehouse server from the office at all. I'm not sure if this is a SQL problem or a connection problem. Any help would be more than welcome....Thank you
