cannot connect to internet after upgrade

Here are my PC specs:
Pentium 166Mhz processor
Windows 2000(upgrade from windows 98)
32Mb of RAM
NetoDragon56k modem
Asus 52x cd-rom
S3 trio VGA card


Hi everyone.I'm a newbie to PC hardware and i really need some help in this.I've upgraded my PC to windows 2000 from windows 98 and now i can't seem to be able to connect to the internet with my netodragon56k modem.

I've tested my modem unto another pc and it works great.When i try to connect to the internet it seems to be ok at first.The modem makes the normal sound when its going to dial to the ISP and later it just stops there.No more sound ,nothing.It just stops there and later it gives me an message that says that the computer you dial is not answering.There are no conflicts,nothing seems to be wrong as i see it.The device manager shows nothing unusual.The phone line is ok and i've checked it.Could there be any conflicts even if its not showing on the device manager?
I've got the drivers installed correctly.Diagnostics ran perfectly but there is one thing during the upgrade process that i did not do.During the windows 2000 setup,it searchers for hardware compatibility and it asked for the driver for my modem and i skip that part.Did that have any affect on what i'm experiencing now.

In a word "yes" you might want to do a search for your modem and get W2k drivers then uninstall your modem then install the new drivers

Well i do already have the win2k drivers for my modem.I got it from the disc that came with the modem.Maybe there is a conflict between the old and the new drivers.I've already removed the win98 drivers from my PC.Any ideas

Ok need to clarify something for me, are you or were you using the W2K drivers?

yes i am using the w2k drivers.

As a test to rule out it being a faulty modem. Set up a new dial up connection and put in a phone number like another house line, or your mobile phone number. If it rings, your modem is fine and it is an ISP error.
If not, then remove the modem and let the machine install it again when u go to add new hardware Thanks, Todd

I've checked my modem and its still ok.Can the problem come from the OS itself?
