Cannot change to USB modem in XP

I am unable to change my friends modem in XP. He currently has a 56k modem installed on PCI, however last week he had a USB ISDN adaptor installed, now he has been told to dial up to his service provider using the ISDN one he simple has to go into the properties of the dial up and change the modem, however when he does this the bit with the modem doesnt have the drop down bit it should to let him do this. Any you guys have any idea whats wrong and how to solve it?
