How can i change the owner of a module if it doesnt let me change it if i am the admin user? It says <unknown> in the owner box, and it wont let me change it. It says i need to have administer rights on it to change the owner. Any ideas?
The module is protected with Access/JET security, assuming you're using Access 97. You're using Access 97, right? You need two things to be able to get into this module:
1) the associated .MDW file for this database
2) the username/password combo of the developer.
If you're doing maintenance, hopefully there will be some sort of developer's notes sitting around in a document. Or ask your supervisor, or ... good luck.
Yep, its 97. I do have the .mdw for the database, but i dont have the username/password combo. He has since left, and i dont have any documentation.. Is there anything i can do??
Assuming security is set up properly, you can't do anything.
Try creating a new db, then importing all objects to the new db. DISCLAIMER: you will lose some information, such as relationships window formatting.
If that doesn't work, then it's probably secured properly. There are Access security cracker programs that work. Talk to your supervisor about buying one, or maybe you can find one for free. I haven't tried.
But without further (external) help, you're stuck.
Ya, i've tried the importing to a new database thing, and it says i dont have rights to import/view the module. The strange thing is i can view one of them, its just the other 3 with the <unknown> owner, i cant do anything with.
