Cannot change internet security level

I am trying to change my Security level for the internet.
It is currently set at medium. I am trying to install macromedia flash from thier website but internet explorer is not allowing me to. When I try to change the security level to medium-low, internet explorer telss me I cannot do this, and it autochanges it to medium. BTW, I am an admin on this pc. Any one have any ideas?

You arent connected to a domain are you? The domain can force the security settings on PCs.

Try downloading the offline installer on that flash site, then install it like any other program and not in IE.

Flash player should install without problems when IE's security is set to Medium. You might have another issue. What is the error message?

The message I get is "Windows blocked the software because it cannot verify the publisher."

I got to macromedias site to get the software, there is no option to download, just install.

Link us to the site. There is usually a "Download offline installer" or something there.

There's another issue I think, it seems to have to do with either the ActiveX control or the software equivilent of "Driver signing" which I dont know where it is...

You're not installing that dreaded Yahoo toolbar are you?

No I don't install toolbars...ever..

I downloaded the msi from that link, when I run it I get the message "This installation package cannot be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

I just installed that and it worked fine for me.

It's not an internet explorer problem I dont think, there's got to be some kind of security setting in Windows itself.

I will think on it, but lets hope someone else comes around and knows what is going on.

Try cleaning out your Temporary Internet Files and other Temp files.

You cannot run executable files or program add-ins that are downloaded by using Internet Explorer or by using Outlook Express on a Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer

Make sure none of your security type programs, especially firewalls, are blocking ActiveX.

Try downloading the .MSI again in case you got a corrupt download.

Try reregestering msiexec.exe. Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type the following line, and then click OK:
msiexec /regserver.

Make sure you have the latest download for Windows Installer "WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe"

Check your Event Viewer, and any Group Policy which may be preventing your actions.

Try this; in IE go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced ans scroll down til you see the Security section, remove the check from Check for signatures on downloaded programs. See if that helps.

That seems a bit strange, just check that you are looking in the correct location.

IE/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced

The Security section is at the bottom of the list.

It seems you are looking under the Security tab of IE by mistake instead of the Advanced tab?
