I cannot set the boot sequence in my PC anymore (Compaq Presario 7464).
recently, I changed my battery, and it seemed to work fine for a week.
But I had to change the boot sequence every time at startup (by entering Bios settings.)
The boot sequence is set to CDROM drive 'first'. I cannot change this setting.
What may be wrong.
I can, however, able to change some other Bios setings.
I have Windows 98 installed.

See the thread 615-340565 for my earlier posting. These problems still existed till the last time I could boot my pc successfully.

I have downloaded the ROMpaq on my floppy disk.
However, I cannot get my pc to boot from the A: drive. Since the boot sequence is set to CDROM drive first (no option for HDD),
I get the message : No operating found on any destination drives, press any key to continue.

I am unable to change the bbot sequence in the bios settings.

Is my hard disk dead? Or can I somehow force my pc to boot up via the A: drive(which will have the bootable ROMpaq)?

I do know that on some Compaq's the BOIS is held on the hard disk. It is repairable but you need to be able to boot from floppy. You could try removing the CD power cable, not sure if that will work though.
