Cannot Acess LaCie Network Space

I have a client with the LaCie Network Space 1TB. Now when i connect it to the Netgear Router and install the LaCie Ethernet Agent on the PC (Dell) the new ethernet disk balloon appears and shows the IP Address of the disk when I click on the ethernet agent. But when i click on Connect Manually nothing happens although can access the drive configuration via internet explorer. I also cannot map to the drive.

Now, when I take this drive home and connect it to my Belkin router my Sony Vaio will let me map to the drive or, with teh Ethernet Agent installed, connect to it manually via it.

Any ideas?

The first question that springs to mind concerns the IP Address. You said, "the new ethernet disk balloon appears and shows the IP Address...". Is this IP Address within the same range as used by the router and other PCs?

I am wondering if this device has DHCP switched and your router may also be issuing IP Addresses as well. If so, try switching off the LaCie's DHCP, and ensure it's using an IP Address in the correct range.

Hi Roger,

yeah teh IP Address is within the same range and I have also tried it with a static address.

Could there be a problem with the netgear router or Dell computer?

I would say it's unlikely to be a problem with the Netgear and the Dell, as they presumably have, and continue to work together ok.

Were you able to establish if the LaCie has a built-in DHCP server? And if so, can you switch it off?

Having given it a Static IP, can you ping it from the Dell?

Are you able to connect your Sony Vaio to this network. And if so do you get Internet ok, and also find the LaCie?

I've had a few different ones here, but never a LaCie. I find that provided they are on the right IP range, Subnet, Mask, etc., I can usually get in with the web browser.

Yes the LaCie has built-in DHCP server and have tried it with DHCP and a static address.

Yes i can ping it from the Dell and as previously stated can access the web browser configuration.

The communication is there but cannot access the drive either by mapping or by using the LaCie Ethernet Agent.

My Sony Vaio is a desktop so cannot move it and check on the other network.

Your first post mentioned "when i click on Connect Manually...". Just briefly explain where you are doing this?

If you go to Start, My Network Places, and do a search for the LaCie device either by name or by IP Address, does it find it?

when i click on Connect Manually...". is an option within the LaCie Ethernet Agent - software provided on cd with the network disk.

It doesnt appear in Network Places at all

In case the original poster is still paying attention...I am having the exact same problem. I have a Lacie Big Disk 1TB and can not access the primary storage area known as "share" by default. It shows to be a broken share. I have not yet found a solution that does not involve deleting the share and recreating it. I don't want to do this as I am afraid data would be lost. So if you or if any one has any ideas please provide input!! Thanks!!

Thanks for responding maximusimo,

I don't have an account with those guys and have previously had a trial so I can't do that again. I believe I understand the scope of your solution though. Unfortunately, my issue can't be solved via access protocols. My drive was accessible two days before this post, then all of a sudden the share became "broken". Haven't had much luck resolving the issue and there doesn't seem to be a true fix. This is also a reacurring problem for this brand of drive. I don't think it's very reliable. Hope you have better luck!!

I suppose you have tried connecting using a different network drive letter and via network places as well.

Can you ping the drive or is it just one of the shares?

CAn you get onto it via your web browser?

Connecting to the actual drive itself works great. I can administer it and have full control with the exception of the original default "Share". Admin GUI shows it to be a broken share. There is no GUI supported funtion for repairing the share.

In the Lacie GUI, check your transfer protocols! make sure that SMB is checked...

also if you have a software firewall installed, make sure that the LOCAL NETWORK is passed through, best do this using the IP Range... if your network is passed through a ROUTER, check it's firewall as well...

Normally you would connect to the NAS with something similar like this: \\Lacie\share

try this instead \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\share (of course where the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the NAS)...

PS: it usually is a good practice that NAS have STATIC IP's, that way mapped drives will always point to the correct share in case of a power outage that may scramble the routing & dhcp tables...

I am having the same problem with the La Cie Network Space 1TB: I can ping, access the administration area throgh the integrated web-server but the network itself can't recognise the openspace nor the myspace. It can't be found via the name nor the IP. I used static as well as DHCP. I updated the ethernat assistant to version 1.20 - after that at least the network space was found in the assistent but authentification and mounting failed here as well as the other problems with beeing recognised through the Windows XP network - yes I also use the same network-group-name for the Lacie and for all my computers. I even tried it on other computer with the latest XP updates - nothring .. No answere was receivied through Lacie.com .... very bad support!

My issue was considerably different. It ended up being un resolved and the drive had to be reset to factory. Data was ultimately lost and Lacies recovery tool and share rebuild did not work.

The problem I had was a result of a broken share. Essentially that means the virtual disk on the drive was unrecognizable to the device. Unknown why it occured.

Is what I explained happening to you? It's hard to tell by your post, but it sounds more like you are actually having network issues with the device itself.

I would try to reset the Lacie (not to FACTORY DEFAULT). e.g. power it off, let it sit a while, then reapply power...

do this for all network components, e.g. switches, routers, etc...

if you have a software firewall installed, then DEINSTALL it, turning it off will not work... then try to connect to it again...
