I recently started using a User Account utility to cleanup our domain (the tool reports on all users and the date of their last signon).

The report displayed many users that are not visible in User Manager...no one knew these accounts even existed. All of the accounts are follwed by a " $ " just like an administrative share..

I am thinking that the previous Network Admin may have set these accounts up if this is possible.

Does anyone know what these accounts could be? Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you sure its users you're looking at, and not the name of the folder assigned to them on the server (quite common practice to set up folder called 'username'+$ - ie, hidden share to hold users files on the server)

Hey Wolluk, thanks for the response.

No it's not a folder...there are absolutely no shares with these names. I am really perplexed. Perhaps the tool we're using (Unused Account Ferret) is misreporting something.

There are some Internal System Accounts that are no seen in User Mgr. This account controls things like the RPC's and System Services logins.
