We have a speed call list with 99 numbers in, and at present, user press *3 and then the 2 digit speed dial number.

It would be really cool, if the user could 'browse' the speed dial list from the display on their phone, see the 'name' attached to the speed dial, and then dial it. Is this possible? Would help loads, as whenever the list changes, we have to republish a printout, with the new speed dials on, which is quite tedious.

We have M3820 handsets, and option 81 switch

Thanks in advance

I am not aware of that capability. Would be nice.

Using a spreadsheet, I imported the speed call list, manually input the names, Sort alphabetically, then export it to a plain Jane text file and stick it on a file server. People in the office briefcase to it, so If I update it, they will get the latest copy. Then they have a shortcut to it on their PC. Since it is a text file, it opens very fast and they can do a simple search or browse.

Sounds like a pain, but it's not too bad. Of course, if someone posts that there is a way to do the browse then my work is in vain.

no arch, i haven't found a better way to do that. i keep the active file on a shared drive, along with the company phone book. i made it a html, so if you click that link internally or vpn, you can see all the files i have links to. they are excel so that people can download, i have a click here for a download. the phonebook goes out zipped, and that is the only problems i have gotten. most users get lost in the unzip, but if you can't use a pc, maybe walmart needs another greater.. the internal net is quick enough that the excel overhead is not that bad. with a 8000 entry phone book with dept, email, phone number, pager number, home number, etc, it's a pretty heafty doc.

I like the HTML idea. For system speed call, some people also post it in their Outlook Directory for internal folk.

if you've never written html, it's much easier then ld 90, 87 86,

thanks for the tips all, shame the functionality is not there, perhaps one for nortel to review in the future?

The Corporate Directory feature would give the name lookup function that you want but only on 3900 series phones and the newer vintage IP sets. And you (normally) require OTM to upload the directory to the PBX.
The Corporate Directory doesn't have to be limited to internal numbers. You can modify the directory file to suit your needs before uploading it to the switch. It could contain all your customer or supplier numbers with their names.

So how does one see if the have the Corporate Directory feature? My hospital uses Succession 1000 on an option 81c. Most of our phones are 3900 series.

Everybody has the CorpDir funtion at least from rls3.0, I'm not sure of pre rls 3.0. The only thing you need is CRPA in CLS of the phonesets, download the corpdir via OTM and you are up and running. It's described in the OTM doc's how to do it...
