Windows 2000 comes with a default list of printers drivers which you can see when you add a new printer. i.e. you can see the manufacturer and model on the drivers list.

Is there a way of importing drivers for a new printer (from a CD) into Windows 2000 so that it shows up on the list? Does Windows 2000 have a drivers folder where it looks first before prompting for a CD?

This would help me when installing USB printers in my organisation.

Regards,

If you install drivers for a printer in 2k, I think they remain available (without needing the install media again), even if you remove the printer. I don't know of any way to add them to 2k's list apart from that.

But what's the problem - if you put the drivers on each machine's local hard drive - or a share on the server? - the install process can just be pointed there?

Or is any help?
