Can`t install operating system---Please help

Just built a new system---booted up with a startup disk---one beep-OK--verifying dmi pool---then it should read the startup disc--get the Arompt and I can then format the HD etc.Trouble is--all I getis--Disk boot failure.Insert sys disk and press enter.The floppy light is coming on,and I`ve tried 3 different startup disks--also tried booting from cd rom but still the same message.Took the mobo out of the case and tried again--still no joy.

Floppy sizes OK in CMOS? Drives not swapped? Floppy inserted far enough to engage the drive pin? Using end connector, past cable split?

Hi,
My problem was similar, I attempted to re-boot from the start up disc and strange things started to happen, drives changed letters etc, to apoint where it was impossible to satisfy the request of the machine, it was solved by placing the start up disc in the floppy and my 98 CD in the disc drive at the same time and power up. This solved the problem and it got onto the first steps of re-booting my system with win98.

check the fdd settings in the cmos setup also could be a problem of head misalignment i haad a problem like this in which a floppy drive would not read any floppy formatted or copied on other drives but would read one that was formatted on it better check and keep us informed
