Can someone help me with questions on a partner mail vs R5.0 and Avaya Partner ACS

Hi, we have had a perfectly functioning partner mail vs R5.0 working for the last two years or so but one day the voice mail stopped working for unknown reasons (no lightning or power failures that we know of). When hitting intercom 777 we would only get a busy signal. We tried rebooting it, resetting it through the system, re-seating the two port memory card that was in the only slot available, re-seating the whole module, etc. No matter what we did we still got the busy signal when hitting intercom 777.
Someone sent me a new module and card to try. The new module is an Avaya Partner ACS module with two slots and the one card is a 4 port card. If I try to use my old module with the new 4 port card I still get the busy signal. If I try the new module with the old two port card, intercom 777 will work but it tells me it's in a test mode which I don't know how to get out of. If I use the four port card or both the four port card and the two port card in both slots I no longer get the busy signal but it just keeps ringing after hitting intercom 777. Can anyone offer some advise? Thank you very much.

Test mode happens when the module does not recognize the port card installed. So, if the new unit is in test mode it is probably not compatible with the old port card. Put the new port card in with the new module.

Hello, thank you for your response. We did put the new card in the new module but when pressing intercom 777 it just rings continuously not allowing us to get into the programming. Thoughts?

Check to make sure you have the correct ports assigned to Hunt Group 7. A voice mail booting up into Test Mode is a feature of the Avaya Partner Messaging.

Dexman, thank you for your tip. Would you be able to tell me how to do this? I'm fairly good technically but not too familiar with this kind of stuff. Thanks!

It is a pretty easy thing to do. Starting with X10...the first extension in the system, determine what is the last physical extension present. The voice mail should occupy the next 6? extensions...but...with the Partner Mail VS, you start with the last port and work backwards.

So, say for example you have ports available up to X25 present. If the voice mail is next, it would use X26 to 31. However, you would start with x31 and count backwards. So if you have a 2 port license, x31 & 30 would be assigned to HG7. If you have a 4 port license, add ports 28 to 31.

The easiest way to check yourself would be to Intercom the port range you suspect should go into HG7 and note which ones are answered by the auto attendant.

The only extensions we use are 10-14. Following your guidance that means that x15 to x20 would be voicemail, or as you say counting backwards x20 to x15.

To go back a step; which module/card do you recommend we try this on? Should this be tried on the new module/old two port card that answers intercom 777 in test mode? Or were you referring to trying this with the new module/new four port card that just continually rings when pressing intercom 777?

What is the procedure to assign these correct ports to hunt group 7?

Thanks so much for your time.

You had a Partner Mail VS. You replaced it with a Partner Messaging. The port assignments are different between the two. Use the PCMCIA card that came with the Partner Messagging, NOT the card that was used in the Partner Mail VS.

The Partner Mail VS takes up 6 extension ports for whatever slot it is in, but it is the LAST 2 or 4 port, depending on the port allocation card that is installed.

The Partner Messaging also takes up 6 extension ports, but it is the FIRST 2, or 4, or 6 ports.

Go into System Programming, Feature 00, Left Intercom Twice. Dial #505-7-10. The top line of the display should indicate Hunt Group 7, Extension 10, and the bottom line should say 2-Not Assigned. Find the button for Next Item, which is the 2nd column, 2nd button down, press it, and the extension shown on the top line should change to 11. Note that the bottom line is still 2-Not Assigned.

Use that Next Item button to step through the extension numbers until you locate the 4 that are set to 1-Assigned. Change the 2 extension numbers BEFORE that group to 1-Assigned, and the 2 extensions at the END of that group to 2-Not Assigned.

For instance - you found that 18, 19, 20, and 21 were assigned to hunt group 7, assign 16 and 17, unassign 20 and 21

Correction, I saw that your VS had a 2 port card in it, so you should only find 2 extensions assigned to Hunt Group 7, remove those and assign the previous 4 extensions. Ex. you find 20 and 21 assigned, unassign those and assign 16, 17, 18, and 19

Hello TouchToneTommy,
Thank you so much for your assistance. Our main wish is that somehow our old voice mail messages were not lost and somehow able to be used again to avoid having to re-think the messages and consume the time to program it. I don't know if that is gone forever. I sort of assume they are on the old two port card but don't know for sure and don't know if there is any way it be reused somehow. As originally stated when using the original VS R5.0 the system gives us a busy signal when pressing intercom 777. When using the newer Avaya Partner ACS module with the older VS two port card we get a message that the system is in a test mode. When using the newer Avaya Partner ACS module with the newer 4 port card it rings continually when pressing intercom 777. With the newer Partner ACS module with the newer 4 port card installed in the system we followed your instructions and in doing so found out that extensions 10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18 and 19 are all assigned to 1. I'm not clear what you are recommending I do next or how to unassign and assign different extensions. Based on what I just told you would you mind providing a few more tips? Thank you very, very much!

If you can tell us the module type of each that you have installed that would help. It sounds like you just have the Partner ACS and the voicemail, but if you have other modules such as 308EC, 206EC, 400EC, etc we need to know that and then we can assist with how to change the voicemail ports. Go from left to right when listing them so we know what order they are in. You could also take a pic and post it.

The messages and recording are on the internal hard drive of the voicemail systems - they are gone forever.

Stop swapping the PCMCIA cards between the two systems, they are not compatible.

I never said to assign EVERY extension to hunt group 7, only find the extensions that are currently assigned, and then do the math to assign the 4 ports BEFORE the current assignments and remove the current ones.

As Telecomboy states, the only way to help you now is to list the modules that are in your system, in order, by slot.

Continued thanks for the assistance. Attached are the pictures of the system/modules (hopefully trying this for the first time). The first picture is with the old VS R5.0 module to the right, the second picture is with the replacement ACS module.

FYI, It appears only one picture was able to post and that is with the one with the replacement ACS module to the right

If they didn't figure it out, you basically need to re-assign #505 because you are moving from a PMVS to a PMessaging. Make sure #505, hunt group 7, has 28, 29, 30, and 31 assigned. Remove (or un-assign x32 and 33). FYI, 1= assigned and 2= not assigned.
