Hello,
I ask this question in both MS Office and MS Window 200 server rooms because I don't know my question will fit into any room.
I have 2 terminals (not server) called Term1 and Term2. On Term1, I have a folder, name FolderA with many MS Word files in it, and I share this folder so that I can access it on Term2 or any terminal. In fact, I have a normal access, and be able to save or save as from any terminal like I access locally on Term1.
Last week, I decide to move all files in FolderA from Term1 to FolderB on Term2, and I have this FolderB shared similar way of set up like on Term1. Now on Term1, I go to the map drive of the share FolderB on Term2, and edite a MS Word file, when I try to save this file, the file becomes corrupted and my original one is gone but instead a temp file (which have a ~ sign in front) is saved, and I have bunch of error messages like:
- The disk you're working on has a media problem that prevents Word from using it...
- word has lost data due to a bad network connection or missing floppy. documents relying on this data are going to be saved and then closed
- An error occured while reconnecting Q: to \\Term2\FolderB . Microsoft Window Netowkr: The local device name is already in use. This connection has not been restored.
-Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error.
Since there is an error on permission, so I try to work around to reset up the shared permission of the folder, and before instead of giving myself in the Properties/Sharing tab/Permission/Add, I use Properties/Security/Add. This set up now won't prompt me any more error, but I can not SAVE the file any more, but instead I have to SAVE AS and everytime I open any MS Word file on the Term2/FolderB from any other terminal, I always have the file is in Read only mode ! (which explains why I can not use Save but Save As instead)
Could any one help me? What's wrong with this?
Note that I log in under my same id/pwd on these 2 terminals. I did ask the Admin guy to solve this problem for me, but he can not fix it !!
The only solution is I have to move back all my files from Term2 back to Term1, which I don't have enough space for these growing files !!
I am thinking it could be the config issue on Term2 that causes?
Thanks
