Can not save a CCR external transfer 1

Up front - I'm really a Sys-Admin and no form of Telco person. I inherited the care and feeding of our Nortel Norstar system.

Here's what I need help on -
Out AA uses a CCR tree. Path 1 was set to forward to an external number of an employee that just left the company.

When I go down the Feature 983 tree I can get to set up the transfer to an external number. I select Pool #1(A) and put in the external number under Number.
But after that all I have on the phone display are the selections of - Line Pool Phone

So, I can't figure out how to save the new settings.
I can successfully make it work if I use an internal extension though.

Is there some "magic" key to make the external transfer work?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response.
I found that out already. I use the VM GUI tool and disable Greeting 1
buy setting it's tree choices to disable.
Then I make my edits.

But after using the CHG buttons to get to modify, I first must delete the path(#1) and save that. Then when I recreate it, under Other O select Xfr then
Ext to get to what I was mentioning in the original post.

When I do this to an internal DN and save it, I go back to the GUI tool and select the edited tree under Greeting1 and the internal extension starts working immediately.

It's saving the external transfer, with the tree disabled, that I can get to go.

Also, one other thing. Please do not suggest RTFM.
Over the years, the FMs are long gone and I have nothing to read. :-(

LINE POOL PHONE is asking you how or what to use to call out. You have to select one of them.

What version voice mail is it?
We can goggle a manual for you in a heart beat.

But a training session is recommend since you admit no experience.
When we install system we train the onsite admin how to navigate and change programming.
But then it's always "I the new admin, no experience" and expect a forum to train you.
Admin training can be about 1 to 2 hours and worth it!

Or....RTFM!!!
Which does exist!.

If it wasn't for your last post I might have chimed in to assist as I have 4454 times to date.

External transfer is a whole other kettle of fish, that involve programming the phone system as well as the voice mail.

Hint you can't use LINE POOL, it must be a ROUTE and DESTINATION.

RTFM or hire a tech or both.

Well;

Thanks allworxguy. It does sound like someone previous either was factory trained, or hired someone to do it. So, I did read how to use a route and DN, so I'll do it that way.

For the othere - I had already spent many hours googling and reading manuals.
NONE of them say our to save a CCR tree forwarding to an external extension.

For the record, when folks are identifying they need help NOW and the answers are "get training", or "RTFM" when obviously stated there is no FM to read, presuming Google hasn't been searched is NO HELP AT ALL!

Just as an FYI, I have a friend who IS Nortel factory trained, and he couldn't figure out and suggested this forum.

So, I'll tell my boss that nobody knows how to make the CCR external transfer work. None of the "experts" know how.

Yeah, I'm VERY disappointed.

Picasso, we DO know how to make it work. We DON'T know exactly how your system is programmed in the necessary areas to make this work. This is why it was suggested to get someone onsite to help. I help a lot of people over the phone but there are times when I must go onsite. Not because I don't know how to fix the issue but because there are answers I need and it requires me to go onsite IF they don't have remote access. Routing must be set up to get this to work. It also depends on what "type" of lines that you have. Don't have an attitude when you are given good advice. Why is it so difficult to take the advice that you might need someone to help you onsite? Going to your boss and telling him that no one knows how to make this work is not only false but in my opinion it makes you look bad. Why not go to him or her and make the case for why it makes sense for someone to come out and train you on some of the basics and help you make this work. Surely you have had to call for help with your network equipment. The difference is that your phone system may not have remote access.

I have to agree with digiteld and others here. But I did go back I re-read the original post and I misunderstood how far you said you got. If you did go as far as you stated and when you put in the number to transfer to and it comes back to LINE POOL PHONE in the display. Hit the * key it should go back to PATH 1 and have a choice for OK. Press OK then you should have a choice to end and then save the tree.

I hope hawks suggestion fixes their issue.

Me too, if not then it's time to call someone.

Ok now the hair on the back of my neck is on end.

How dare you come here and ask for FREE help and then dis us for telling you the help required is to hire pro who can come on site.

External transfer is complex with many variables.

"I had already spent many hours googling and reading manuals."
How much time and money have wasted for your boss? If you worked for me you'd be fired!!

"Just as an FYI, I have a friend who IS Nortel factory trained, and he couldn't figure out and suggested this forum."
He must have flunked!!

hawks -

Thank You!!!

What I was missing was the "*" key to get back to save the tree.
I had been following - Norstar Voice Mail 4.0 - Set Up and Operation Guide Pages 132 - 135

But, if it said to hit the * key I totally missed it.

Once you hit the * key you can indeed step back through and save the tree!

Worked on a test tree, not to go live.

Just as an FYI for others - When the boss says do it NOW, there isn't time for training. When the bean counters say no, there's no training. Plus, looks like some of the FMs are missing important parts, like this "*" key issue.

My thanks to EVERYONE!

No question that Nortels docs leave little to be desired.
