Trying to install win 2k with Soyo KT333 Dragon Ultra Platinum Edition motherboard. Everytime I try to copy the startup files I get messages saying: "setup cannot copy the file: *.*" It's always a differnt file everytime I try loading the OS. I used the OS disk to partition and format the hard drive.

Have you tried copying the i386 directory from the CD to the hard drive and running WINNT.EXE from there?

(Note: I had a problem with an Asus A7V board installing Win2K where because the HDD was connected to the UDMA100 controllers, and Win2K didn't have inbuilt drivers it didn't think there was a hard drive in the system; fixed by getting the UDMA100 drivers onto a floppy and choosing custom driver at setup time by pressing F6 during auto detect - this may help you).

I've I386 file to my hard drive but I have been unable to copy all the files. I keep getting insufficient disk space messages. I've gotten into dos by using a maxtor cd rom and win98 startup disk. The win98 startup disk allowed me to load the most files from the i386 folder. Do you have any more ideas?

Can you tell me about the disks in your machine? Is it just one or several in a RAID setup?
How are they partitioned? What format are they (NTFS, FAT, FAT32 etc)?

This sort of problem is often caused by bad hardware.

Thanks for everyone who tried to help me. I found that it was a hardware problem. I had some bad DDR RAM. I change out all my hardware and my machine is working great. I bought a P4 2.4 W/800 FSB and HT. The motherboard is an MSI Neo2 865PE with Dual Channel DDR. Best machine I ever had for multi-tasking.
