This is bizarre. Okay, here's my home setup:
Server 2003 w/AD
Custom OU's with my users, groups, and computers; GPO's configured to redirect My Documents to a share on the server.
One Win XP Pro workstation
One Apple iBook

Now, here's my problem: just starting today, I can no longer access the My Documents folder while logged onto the XP machine. I can access that, and all other network shares that I have permission to, from the iBook. The error I get on the XP box is "access denied." The only thing I changed recently was to swap out the network switch. Like I say, everything still works normally except for this one issue. I can still access other shares from the XP box.

I reset the XP computer account, removed and added it to the domain, but that didn't do anything. I'm considering deleting my user profile on the XP box and then logging back on to create a new one, but I'm not sure what that will do to all of the files and folder in My Documents. Will they remain on the server even if my local profile is deleted on the XP machine? Also, if you know that this will not fix my problem, and know the solution, please let me know.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Mike

Okay, now it's the next morning, a few hours after my original post, and I can access My Documents just fine. Something must have had to sync or something. If anyone feels inclined, could you please explain this to me? I know about computer account passwords getting out of sync, but I've never encountered something like this.

Thanks for your help.

look in the event logs on concerned machines.....
you might have an event related to this resynching.

Thanks Aftertaf,

I get this in my Application log:

[blue]Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1030
Date: 2/22/2005
Time: 7:49:39 AM
User: CLARKE\mkclarke
Computer: SADIE
Description:
Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. A message that describes the reason for this was previously logged by the policy engine.
[/blue]

This in my Service log:

[blue] Event Type: Warning
Event Source: LSASRV
Event Category: SPNEGO (Negotiator)
Event ID: 40961
Date: 2/22/2005
Time: 7:49:39 AM
User: N/A
Computer: SADIE
Description:
The Security System could not establish a secured connection with the server ldap/MRBIG.clarke.local/clarke.local@clarke.local. No authentication protocol was available.
[/blue]

And this in my debug log:

[red]USERENV(20c.198) 07:24:29:710 GetGPOInfo: Local GPO's gpt.ini is not accessible, assuming default state.
USERENV(20c.b78) 07:49:39:651 ProcessGPOs: GetGPOInfo failed.
[/red]

I've tried almost all of MS' troubleshooting tips, like connecting to the GPO share point manually, and I don't have a problem. It must be the "secure link" part of the error that's causing the problem? Now the access to My Documents is intermittent. Very strange. Is there something I can check on the local XP box, instead of the server, that might be out of whack?

Thanks again,

Mike
