I currently have a 64MB DIMM in my P266 PC. I want to increase the memory in this machine to 256MB, but the only memory I can find are PC100 DIMMs

Will this memory work in this motherboard?

The DIMMS might not fit into the motherboard on a P266 machine. I believe there are fewer pins on older SDRAM DIMMS. However, if the amount of pins does match up, then it would be safe. You just can't use slower memory in a faster environment.

The DIMM sockets on this machine are 168 pin, so the PC100 DIMM's will fit.. just didn't know if they would work..
Thanks...

Hi,

I would say it depended on your refresh rates. It is possible that your PC100 has a faster refresh rate.
Ypu can end up with problems if the memory refresh rates don't match.

Any Help, Yes/No let me know

Regards

Higher bandwidth memory works perfectly fine in slower systems. The only concern you should ever have is to make sure that you don't force slower memory to work with a faster bus. In a sense, faster memory is backward compatible given that it's the same design.

In this case, the memory will default to the slower speed and shouldn't give you any problems.

Teknikal is right. It will work like a champ. It won't work as fast as it could, but I ran PC100 in a PII 300 with a 66mghtz bus for a long time (and it's still running) and had zero problems.

Same here,

I've got 128Mb of PC100 in a P200MMX computer and it runs fine.
