Is there a way of 'turning' the error log so SQL 2000 starts a new error log without stopping and restarting the SQL Server service.

Run the procedure sp_cycle_errorlog.

SQLBill,

Thank you for that. I was looking under the key word of turning in BOL which would explain why I could not find it.

But once again thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Regards

Glad to help. By the way, if your logs are constantly getting 'big' you might do what I do....I created a job that runs sp_cycle_errorlog every Friday night.
