I want to be able to transfer files from one computer to another computer through a USB connection. I read somewhere that you can do it through a parallel port. would I need any special software to do that? I am running W98 on one of the computers @ W2000 on the other one.

Windows 98 by default only supports Parallel and serial connections. You can buy third party programs that would allow USB connections (I think there are some). Try Lap Link or PC relocator. Or search for some. I would suggets for about 15$ each just buying a coupl of network cards and a crossover cable and do it via network.

Yes you can. Just buy an USB peer to peer pack - works as a
normal LAN between 2 PC's

LapLink.com has a product called PCsync that we have used. It comes with cables for USB port connections. It worked as advertised and suited our needs exactly: replacing an existing desktop (not on the network) with a new computer and transferring data and application files. Good luck
